Ukraine, under continuum pressure for 2012
The problems of Ukraine in setting up the co-organization of the European Football Champion from 2012 remained in the public attention, by the assumption launched in the British press about an eventual involvement of Germany. The Daily Telegraph journal published at the beginning of this week the information that UEFA contracted the German Football Federation in order to substitute Ukraine in organizing the tournament, next to Poland. So, Germany the organizer of World Cup 2006 and beneficiary of a good infrastructure could host some matches in Berlin and Dresda (closer to the board with Poland) DFB denied this information, through the voice of the president Theo Zwanziger. “We aren’ getting involved in any imaginary games or speculations about the 2012 European Championships. Should there be any difficulties, then UEFA president Michel Platini will make suggestions”, Zwanziger, stated, quoted by the daily Bild. Ukraine has major delays in the modernization of the stadium from Kiev, and UEFA has drawn up the attention against this aspect yet from January. Since then have turned up rumors according to which Ukraine and Poland would fallow to lose the right of organizing both the tournament from 2012. The first variant was to attribute the tournament to Austria and Switzerland that have also organized the edition of this summer. The name of Germany was also rumored as representing the reserve host for organizing the World Cup since 2010, in case in which South Africa will have infrastructure problems or suffer a natural disaster.
