250 MPs Voted Against Croitoru Government
Romania’s Prime Minister-designate Lucian Croitoru lost a confidence vote in Parliament on Wednesday for his proposed government. The result of the vote was 250 “against”, 189 “for”. The government needed 236 votes to be instated. As a result of this vote, Romania remains stuck in a political deadlock.
Before the vote, Croitoru told lawmakers that Romania needs a stable government, with full powers to carry on with IMF-required reforms, adding a potential halt of the country's agreement with the IMF would bear serious consequences for its external credibility, more so than if the deal had never been signed.
