Romanian Presidential Election Prelim Results: Basescu - 32.42%, Geoana - 31.17%
After counting the votes from 99.92% of the poling stations, the Central Electoral Bureau announced, today, that Romania’s incumbent president Traian Basescu obtained 32.42% of the votes and social democrat candidate Mircea Geoana got 31.17%. The third place was occupied by liberal candidate Crin Antonescu, with 20.02% of the votes.
Next come far-rightist Corneliu Vadim Tudor (5.55%), Hungarian minority representative Kelemen Hunor (3.83%), independent Sorin Oprescu (3.18%) and Steaua owner George Becali (1.91%).
The other six candidates earned less than 1%, according to the preliminary results from the Electoral Bureau.
