Romania’s Electoral Authority Final Null Vote Recount: 2,247 Valid Ballots
After reexamining and recounting all the voided ballots in Romania’s presidential election held last Sunday, the Central Electoral Bureau found 2,247 valid ballots amongst the 137.476 votes that were declare null. Therefore, 1,260 were in favor of the incumbent Traian Basescu and 987 for social democrat Mircea Geoana, Romania’s Central Electoral Bureau said Monday.
The Social Democratic Party's claimed last week that the poll was tainted by fraud, after their candidate Geoana lost the vote to incumbent Basescu at a difference of some 70,000 ballots. The Constitutional Court has yet to rule whether to validate the election or order a rerun, as social democrats demanded.
