Romanian Health Ministry Plans Introducing a Fast Food Tax
The Romanian New Health Minister, Attila Cseke, announced today that there will be a difficult year for supporting the national health programs, so the ministry plans
to introduce a tax on fast food. "We plan to introduce a new tax on fast food, sweets, fizzy drinks, to support national health programs," Cseke told.
He said he has asked the Ministry's health commission to issue a stand on this proposal in order to establish how these new taxes can be applied and he also stated that there will be talks with fast food producers and distributors about the manner in which the tax will be collected.
According to the minister, the draft Government Decision implementing the tax has been put up for public debate on the Ministry's website.
Minister Cseke said that 2010 will be a difficult year also for sustaining infrastructure and medical equipment investments and for providing the necessary medicine and sanitary materials in emergency units and blood transfusion units.
