Stop from UEFA for the English clubs
UEFA will try to convince the English football clubs to accept smaller sums for the performances of the Champions League, according to BBC. The European forum has published the earned figures in last season by the clubs from Premier League: Manchester United 33,9 million pounds, Chelsea – 28,7 million, Liverpool – 21,1 million, and Arsenal – 18,3 million.
William Gaillard, UEFA spokesman, said that the algorithm of the gains is fixed until 2012, after which it would fallow a change. UEFA will try to obtain the support of the clubs and of the European associations on this project. “We are well aware there are some imbalances in the revenue distribution which have a negative effect in national leagues by widening the gap between the rich and not so rich. “We will talk to the clubs and see how they feel, and try to convince them that in the longer run it is not in their interest if, because of the way money is distributed, national leagues become too imbalanced”, Gaillard stated. The British clubs (from England and Scotland) have earned last season 26% of the total of 462 million pounds granted to all the European clubs of UEFA.
