 Romania’s annual inflation rate fell to 7.93% in June

Romanian consumer prices fell 0.29% in June from a month earlier, pushed down by cheaper food items, while the annual inflation eased to an unexpected 7.93%, from 8,41% in May, the country’s statistics institute INS said Monday. Is the first time in two years when Romania has deflation. The latest drop in consumer prices was in August 2009, when the products were cheaper by about 0.2%.   According to INS, in the summer months there is a tendency of deceleration of inflation or even falling prices, given that the start time of harvest.   In June, food prices fell by 1.3% mainly due to cheaper potatoes (-2%). Cheaper food was offset largely by increased prices for services, which grew by 0.7%. Some of the services whose prices boosted were air transport (+2%) and telephone (+2%). Non-food prices rose by 0.2% in June.   Since the beginning of this year, consumer prices rose by 2.75%. citeste mai mult

 Romania Central Bank Increases 2011 Inflation Forecast To 5.1%

Mugur Isarescu, governor of National Bank of Romania, announced today that the central bank decided to raise its inflation forecast for the end of the year from 3.6% to 5.1%. Also, the forecast for 2012 has been upped, from 3.2% to 3.6%.   Romania's annual inflation rose to 8% in March, the highest figure since August 2008. Romania Central Bank Keeps Key Rate And Minimum Reserve Requirements Unchanged

Romania’s central bank board decided today to keep its main interest rate at a record low of 6.25% a year for the eighth straight time, after costlier fuels and food items pushed the inflation rate to 8% in March, the highest rate since August 2008.  Romania Annual Inflation Reaches 31-Month High In March

The annual inflation rate rose in March to 8.01% from 7.6% in February, and exceeded analysts' estimates polled by "Fin.ro", who anticipated that inflation will stand between 7.7% -8%. Inflation rate in March reached its highest level since August 2008, when the indicator stood at 8.02%. Monthly inflation rate stood at 0.6%, between 0.3% -0.66% expected by analysts surveyed by "Fin.ro".   Monthly increase in consumer price index was due to higher prices of food products (+1.17%) and non-food products (+0.51%). On the other hand, prices for services decreased by 0.34%, due to the appreciation of the leu against the Euro and U.S. dollars.   Fresh fruits were more expensive in March by 5.26% compared previous month, the price of potatoes went up by 6.59% and the cost of sugar increased by 6.05%. Romania’s Inflation in January, the Highest in the EU

Romania’s inflation rate stood at 7% in January, a value that puts the country first in the European Union. According to the European statistics office Eurostat, the indicator rose to 2.7% at EU level and at 2.3% in the euro zone compared with January 2010.   Romania is followed in the top of the highest inflation rate in January by Estonia (5.1%) and Greece (4.9%). The lowest annual rates are observed in Ireland (0.2%) and Sweden (1.4%). In Hungary, consumer prices have advanced at an annual rate of 4% and in Bulgaria grew by 4.3%. citeste mai mult

Romania October CPI +7.9% on Year

According to Romania’s statistics institute INS, consumer prices rose 0.55% on the month in October, due to the rising of food and service prices, while the annual inflation accelerated to a new two-year high at 7.88%.    Food prices increased 0.8% on the month in October, while services and non-food prices were up 0.7% and 0.3%, respectively. In the food sector, edible oil and vegetable prices posted the highest rises, of 4.82% and respectively 4.12%. At the same time, the services sector was mostly impacted by a 4.9% increase in transportation tariffs at national passenger rail company CFR SA. Romania's harmonized index of consumer prices, or HICP, stood at 5.5% end-October, up from 5.2% the month before. According to official data showed today by EU's statistics office, Romania had the highest inflation in the European Union in August, compared with the EU average rate of 2%, from 0.6% a year earlier and  2.1% in July. Romania is followed by Greece, with an inflation rate of 5.6%, and Hungary, with 3.6%, while the lowest annual rates were observed in Ireland (-1.2%), Latvia (-0.4%) and Germany (1%).   Romanian consumer prices rose 0.2% in August compared with July, while EU's monthly inflation was 0.2%. According to the members of the financial and banking analysts' association, or AAFBR, Romanian consumer price index rose by 0,1% in May, after a 0.4% growth in April, triggering a minor rise in the annual inflation rate to 4.4%, from 4.3% in April.   Annual forecasts range between 4.4% and 4.6%, while monthly estimates place the CPI between 0.1% and 0.3%, the association said in a statement.   Regarding the inflation rate by year-end, analysts predict the indicator will ease to 4%, from 4.7% at the end of 2009. citeste mai mult

According to official data released today, Romanian annual inflation reached 4.5% in February, the second highest rate in the European Union, after Hungary, which reported an annual inflation of 5.6%. EU's annual inflation was 1.4% in February, down from 1.7% a month earlier. Romania was followed by Poland (3.4%) and the lowest rates were observed in Latvia (-4.3%), Ireland (-2.4%) and Lithuania (-0.6%), Eurostat data showed. Romanian consumer prices rose 0.2% in February compared with the month earlier. EU's monthly inflation was 0.3%.     Annual inflation in the 16 states that use the euro was 0.9% in February, down from 1% in January.     In February, the lowest annual rates were observed in Latvia (-3.3%), Ireland (-2.4%) and Estonia (-1.0%), and the highest also in Hungary (6.2%), Romania (5.2%) and Poland (3.9%).
